The Store

I have been crafting away for the past year or so and I finally got my act together to create a new online store to sell all of my products.  I am so excited to finally be online and I can’t wait to add more products.  I would love to create things full-time, and this is the first step towards my goal!

Here is the link to my new store!

Where the Wild Things Are Baby Shower

I LOVE to plan parties, and a few weeks ago I got to throw a baby shower for my sister-in-law.  She is due any day now and I am very excited to have another adorable nephew!   I have nicknamed him Tadpole and I decided that it would be fun to host a book shower to stock his nursery with baby books.  Where the Wild Things Are was a treasured favorite for my Hub-Hub and his brothers when they were young,  so I decided to use this book for the theme of the shower.  It was great fun!

The Decor:

My other sister-in-law helped me decorate the wall behind the food table to look like the jungle in the book!  Pretty convenient that I already have green walls in my kitchen! 🙂 They fit right in with the theme.

I put balloons along the pathway to my side of the duplex we live in so everyone would know right where to go for the party.

This Where the Wild Things are wreath welcomed guests to the party.

How cute is this Welcome Baby sign!  It was left over from Mr. Nephew’s shower this winter!  I did not make it, but I sure was glad to use it. 🙂

I will talk more about this changing table in another blog post, but we used Tadpole’s changing table to store all the gifts.  Look at all the cool books he got!

The Menu:

  • Chicken sandwiches
  • Mini Fruit Pizzas
  • Crackers and Dip
  • Cream Cheese Mints
  • Jello Sailboats
  • Cake

The individual fruit pizzas were a big hit!  I made some of them gluten free for some of my family members and even they turned out great.  I just used sugar cookie dough for the crust and made a homemade glaze.  I chose the fruit to coordinate with the colors of the shower.

I think my favorite food items were the jello sailboats!  I saw a picture of these on pinterest and I just knew I HAD to make them! (I tried to find a source for the pin but I didn’t have much luck…. Sorry!)  We took these treats a step further and gave each of the boats a name.  We had the S.S. Mommy, the S.S. Max, the S.S. Monster, etc.

The Cake:

Here is the lovely Mommy-to-be with her cake!  My mom is a professional cake decorator and I asked her to make a cake for the shower.  She has this really sweet cake pan in the shape of a book that I knew would be perfect!

We ate food, played some wild games, and showered Mommy and Tadpole with gifts.  Much fun was had by all!  I sent each of the guests home with a favor box filled with cream cheese mints.  I made them out of – you guessed it – book pages! So fun!

Thank you to everyone who helped me out with the shower!  I had such a fun time planning it and I am very grateful to those who helped me put it all together!

If you want to see anymore cute ideas for baby showers, I have a whole bunch of them in my Pinterest Board – Baby Shower Ideas.

Check out my next post for details on the bright blue chaning table and the gift I made for Tadpole! 🙂

Refurbished TV Stand

I have a soft spot in my heart for old pieces of furniture with a lot of potential for refurbishing.  When my sister was moving out of her apartment she presented me a one of her dumpster-diving finds. She was eager to off load the big, bulky piece and I was very willing to give it a new home and a facelift.  The Hub-Hub, however, saw it and said I was under no circumstances to bring that broken piece of crap home with me!  So, I set about to scheme how to get it home with me without his knowledge.  The next time I went to visit my sister, I got my Dad to help me load it into my SUV and my neighbor to help me move it into the basement.  Then I let it sit there for a few months so the Hub-Hub would forget about where it possibly could have come from.

Now normally I try not to go against my husband’s wishes, but when I have an amazing idea for a project, sometimes I just can’t resist!  In this case, things turned out ok.  By the time I got around to painting the forlorn piece of furniture into a beautiful tv stand I had convinced him of my dream and even got his help sanding and painting. 🙂  I also made the curtains to fit in the two bottom openings – which I plan on switching out for every holiday/season!  So many exciting uses for this “dumpster-dive-piece-of-crap” that is now a focal point for our living room.

Thanks for not killing me for bringing it home Hub-Hub!  I love you. 🙂

Finally Spring and Sunshine!

I have been hoping and praying for the sunshine and my day off to match up for weeks now!  This weekend they did so I could FINALLY take some good pictures for my blog!  It was an absolutely beautiful weekend and I was able to get ton of stuff done in the yard, take my new bike out for a spin, AND take plenty of pictures for my blog!   I now have lots of good photos to share with you, but I will save them for future posts.  Today, I wanted to show you the pictures of my springtime lap quilt I made for myself. 🙂  I have literally been working on this quilt for over a year and I am so happy to have it finished!  I love the colors, the YELLOW back, and the fun binding.

What do you think?   Now tell me those colors don’t get you in the mood for sunshine and springtime! 🙂

Blog Update

As you may or may not have noticed, I have falled quite behind in my blogging-once-a-day-for-the-month-of-March-Challenge.  My new job took up quite a bit of my time this past week and I know it will be awhile before things settle down.  However, I think this is a good thing.  While blogging every day sounds like a good idea, I wasn’t happy with the quality of some of my posts.  As I hope to gain a large readership, I want to make sure I have excellent blog posts that I am proud of.  Therefore, I will be spacing my blog posts out so that I can have a few days to work on each.

Even though I haven’t been blogging, I have been working very hard in my craft room.  My mom came to visit me last weekend and we got a bunch of garments cut out.  Today I finally finished one of them!  I have been drooling over this skirt for YEARS!

Many times when I buy a pattern it is because I like the design, but not the fabric.  I can usually think of the exact fabric choice/color that I want to use to create the garment.  This skirt was different.  I wanted it in the EXACT color with the EXACT trim to look EXACTLY like the model on the pattern.  I am especially drawn to wardrobe pieces that allow me to bend some of the rules of fashion.  For example: you shouldn’t wear brown with black OR black with navy.  I realize this skirt is actually royal blue, but it is borderline…  I have the most adorable scarf that has brown, black, navy, AND grey!  I wear it with EVERYTHING!  This skirt will allow me to wear my favorite blue heels with black tights.

A few weeks ago I bought the fabric to make the skirt and today I cut it out and sewed it up.  Here is my new skirt with the outfit I will be wearing to work tomorrow! 🙂

March 12 – Tribal Print Skirt!

At my new job I will start at promptly 7:30am, whereas the old job began at 9:00am.  Therefore, I have been trying to recondition my body to be a morning person…  I really should be in bed right now!

What kept me up tonight was the inspiration to finally make my tribal print skirt.  I have been wanting to make it for days, but I have been trying to go to bed early.  Tonight I just couldn’t stand it!  I HAD to make it!

I used this tutorial I found on Pinterest from handmademess.  She called it her “Easiest Skirt in the World”.  It was a pretty good tutorial, but if you want to make it yourself I would recommend reading the comments first.  There are some things that got added to clear up some questions. It really was a very easy skirt!  I will probably make many more. 🙂

Here is my tribal print skirt with the outfit I will wear tomorrow. (The shirt and tights are brand new from Kohl’s)

This will definitely not be my last tribal print skirt!  I wasn’t totally in love with this fabric, so I am still on the look-out for the print in my head.  However, it made a pretty cute skirt and I can’t wait to wear it to my last day of work tomorrow.
